We’re all addicted to our gadgets and smartphones, and they’ve become a part of us. How many of us can go a day without them? Even if we manage, we still feel like we’ve missed out on important information. The problem isn’t the advancement of technology but the impact it has on our lives.
With Artificial Intelligence (AI) growing rapidly, the future can seem even more uncertain. Technology is advancing at a pace we can’t compete with. But as technology grows, many people feel lonelier, more stressed, overwhelmed, and even depressed. The things that truly help us feel better—like spending time with loved ones, enjoying nature, or connecting with family—are not digital.
While we try to find balance, we should stop and think about how we can use technology to improve our lives, not control them. Instead of competing with technology, we should use it to make time for the things that really make us happy. We need to ask ourselves what it really means to be present and alive.
Technology will keep evolving, regardless of how we feel. I asked AI how many jobs will be replaced by automation and AI by 2030, and it responded with a number: nearly 375,000. The common factor among these jobs? They involve repetitive tasks that don’t need human interaction.
But will AI replace Human Resources (HR)? The answer is no. Jobs that require empathy, emotion, and a human touch can’t be replaced by machines. Parts of HR and especially recruitment—like resume screening, interview scheduling, and onboarding—are already automated, with 65% of recruiters using AI in their daily processes. Tools like Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and AI chatbots handle routine tasks. But the other parts of Recruitment – motivating teams, negotiating, interviewing, building relationships and culture, training, and coaching—can’t be automated. It’s likely that in the future, AI will take over more recruitment and interview processes. Maybe in 20 years, this will be normal, but for now, it feels unsettling.
Let’s not forget the words of Maya Angelou: “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
